Gendarmerie Museum, Melun

The gallery of evolution

Description

Conversion of an old barracks building of the national gendarmerie into a gendarmerie museum.

For the current building to represent its new function the current facade and the access forecourt are modified. A fronton scale of the whole building is reported on the facade with in its center the emblem of the national gendarmerie: the grenade.
Inside the museum a huge showcase (H 8,70m x 2m P x L 18m), the museum’s backbone that brings together the entire history of gendarmes.
Suspended in the lobby of the ground floor, it leads, through hoppers practiced in the floors, the gaze of the visitor to the permanent exhibition located in the floors.
Environmental approach: the provisions included in the project are the 14 targets of the NF HQE® tertiary building reference.
